Why SEO Is a Dirty Word
Not everyone agrees that SEO is a good route. Why?
In the culture of the Internet, some think that anything that drives a person to success is immoral. After all, success is simply supposed to occur. With that in mind, if you create a site and it becomes huge, it should be because you were lucky and not because you did anything to make it happen intentionally.
Although many people seem to think that they understand SEO, it appears that few people actually do. SEO ultimately means that you’ve attempted to rank your site’s pages for targeted keyword phrases so that it ranks highly in the search engines. However, Google isn’t based on those trying to rank, but rather it’s based on people arriving there unintentionally.
If you think that online success should be unintentional then you’ll probably find yourself having difficulty with anyone who has accomplished something by using SEO. A company or individual, who sets an objective, creates a plan, charts a course of action, and then follows through with it is clearly doing something wrong. However, we believe online success should never just be unintentional. It should occur because someone desired it and intended for it to happen. That is what good long term optimization is all about: webmasters who desire to be No. 1 and are able to figure out how to get there. If that is bad then I we don’t want to be good!
